REDUCING VIOLENT CRIME
Under John Creuzot's leadership, the DA's office has successfully increased prosecution of violent crimes and homicides, convicting in thousands of cases. Creuzot's policies have led to reduced violent crime and allowed law enforcement to better focus on serious crime and to improve incident response times. As the Dallas Morning News reported, the 2024 violent crime rate went down more than 8% compared to 2023. Murders went down more than 26% in 2024 compared to 2023.

District Attorney John Creuzot is more interested in results than assumptions. His research-based approach to criminal justice is about trying policy, having that policy evaluated by objective parties, and keeping what works to reduce crime and recidivism and improve outcomes.

District Attorney John Creuzot has cleared thousands of low-risk cases, decriminalized minor offenses, expanded treatment programs, reformed the juvenile system, and continues to push for bail reform.

District Attorney John Creuzot worked with legislators to pass the Richard Miles Act, requiring law enforcement to certify that all evidence has been disclosed so charging decisions are based on the full facts. He also helped pass Bo’s Law, which requires officers to keep cameras on during investigations.
As a judge, District Attorney John Creuzot established Dallas County's first-ever specialty court for drug offenses, known as DIVERT (Dallas Initiative for Expedited Recovery and Treatment), which allows selected first-time drug offenders to go through intensive, court-monitored rehabilitation instead of facing incarceration. This program was the result of probing questions Creuzot began to ask about the outcomes for people and the community resulting from the criminal justice system.
Justice requires not only holding the guilty accountable — but ensuring the innocent are not wrongfully convicted.
Under John Creuzot’s leadership, the Dallas County District Attorney’s Office has continued to serve as a national model for conviction integrity. Through a rigorous review process grounded in facts, transparency, and fairness, the office has helped secure the exoneration of 10 men who were wrongfully convicted.
